read what

July 29, 2008

What can we do for you? Let’s talk about these delusions of yours… We shouldn’t jump to conclusions without proof We’ve got that all figured out. I’ll keep saying different words and maybe it’ll make you think of something. Hmmmm… Montage is always a clue. Can I see one? See one what? Ooohh! I’m gonna feel this hug for days! Fancy Schmancy move, Ai. Oh God…you have a plan. Oh, I have THE plan. Any obscure Italian coming up anytime soon? (Olive Oyl upside down going down a hill with a woman in “sky” clothing looking down at her.) You really live in your own little universe , dont’ you? Or a lot of tiny ones! People without faces saying: What about the important issue? The one that matters? Like why don’t these people have ______. Machines no longer exist that can read them. OK. I guess that would be weirder. I was thinking the same thing. What was that?

THAT was today’s collage (or montage if you prefer) in text form. And now here it is in visual form:

from one hill to another

An article in the Madison Courier Don’t give up on the Delta Queen gives hope that the Delta Queen may still be able to continue up and down the river. She stopped by Madison, Indiana last Sunday for a farewell, although she is not due to stop river runs until fall. It was a nice crowd of well-wishers. The Madison Courier mentioned congressman Baron Hill supports saving the Delta Queen. In saying that Hill now supports saving the Queen is to remind people that he has switched from his earlier position. Now is the time to let the congressman know that we are seeking a favorable vote. You can contact Mr.Hill about this by calling his Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-5315 or his Jeffersonville office at (812) 288-3999. Every call or letter helps.

mo colla

July 29, 2008

Yesterday I gave you an Italian habitational word/name, colla, from the medieval Latin word “colla”  which means ‘hill’, showing an visual instance of it in my collage by combining two unrelated comics. On the internet I found a reference to the Irish name Colla (http://www.answers.com/topic/colla-2)  which said it is a Celtic name meaning “great lord or chief”. There is a visual instance of it in comics I use today, in the Dutch short form of the personal name Nikolaas (Nick).  There is such a planet called Colla IV (4) in the Sci-Fi universe and I even read a colla 5 reference, because the number 4/5 brought me this reference which I thought was fun:

Colla 6 gave me more Italian in the way of glue (Italian colla), “Glues have proven to be so versatile that scientists are constantly watching for new applications…” and colla 7 gave me the word that started it all, “collage”.   (*colla, from Greek kolla )

My colla is best kept to the simple correlation shown in the “marriage” of two comics.

And of course had to include this mini-collage from today’s cartoons:
