“The Atlantic Monthly asteroid story targeted one human who knew how to anagram. Everywhere you go you see I hit you…you do jump. Today’s genii went internet.” Hmmm, that’s a doozy anagram. If you have followed more than one recent post you will recall that the magazine (Atlantic Monthly) was mentioned as part of the coincidences of late, in the post easy to imagine, wherein I “telescoped” one of their articles on asteroids. Mention shows up again today in my anagram, using the text from my last comics collage (from the previous post trusting in God.) Apparently it (whatever that IS) was not done. For tonight, that’s it, though. If you haven’t read the recent posts, go back and see how things relate, as I am too tired to explain anything else tonight.

trusting in God
August 6, 2008“WWW talks about Hanny’s Voorwerp. It’s coincidental enough! I do trust sense, did not doubt our faith.” In my last post (cosmic ghosts) I mentioned having read about Hanny’s Voorwerp, and of course, having selected random text in the collage, it reiterates that.
I did some other anagrams from the same text, but am keeping those separate for now. Today was one of those days that I had to rely on my faith to show me the bigger picture. Today the beau broke his other hip. That means, this is the second hip operation in 7 months. Fortunately the first hip has healed, but it isn’t making things much easier, other than giving him a leg to stand on. He has had difficulty walking on it as it was, it wasn’t back to normal yet. And now the other one is broken.
He could have been on a roof, or scaffolding, but he was only walking in front of the house this time, having just accidentally hit a small stump and felt the shock waves go through his leg. Just last week he went in for an X-ray because he was in so much pain. He stayed off of it for days. At this point, I believe the Lord was protecting him. It seemed a matter of time before the second hip needed attention with taking on all the weight of the body for so long. His left hip was broken for months before it was operated on; we didn’t even know it was broken. Surely he won’t have to waitsix months for this one to be operated on.
As you can imagine, we really thought we were getting close to being able to have an income again, (it’s been a year) and now…well…ALL I can go is keep trusting in God. I am sure He has His reasons for this at this time. It seems time passed just long enough for the first hip to heal, so why not go ahead and break the second one, get it over with now, before winter comes. It will be easier for me to try to take care of him now, too. Oh yeah, there are plusses…
cosmic ghosts
August 6, 2008
I was wondering when I saw this article on Physorg (‘Cosmic ghost’ discovered by volunteer astronomer) why it is that these discoveries are written up as “news” so many months after the fact. The article came out on August 5th, but the discovery occurred about a year ago, right? It seems that big bravo had to have gone to the young woman (Hanny van Arkel) who found the image and brought it to the attention of the experts.
When I read the article I could appreciate this statement, “Knowing that the human eye is sometimes more sensitive than a computer at picking out unusual patterns, he (Schawinski, a member and co-founder of the Galaxy Zoo team) mused that it would be wonderful if there were amateur astronomers who were interested in doing some of the “scanning.”
I agree we depend too much on machines to do our bidding, the human eye is still quite a marvel. In addition, I’m sure there are many who are interested that may not know such a program is out there, so the “news” is still good. Hopefully science students are introduced to programs such as these so future astronomers can get a jump start on a career or hobby. Seti has a similar program (Seti at Home ) wherein the public is welcomed to perform scans on their personal computers at home via a screen saver. I did that for awhile myself.
A little help goes a long way, obviously. I’m sure there are many more ghosts that have yet to be discovered, either those already on film someplace in an archive or those waiting for time to catch up to the live shot. Sometimes ghosts just don’t show up on the film until much later, when the right person comes along to find them.
